Echoes of Salt is part of the Living Heritage project
Regional_Express. The composition delves deep into the soundscapes of the Salzkammergut region. The work is a collection of richly textured environments that build into a musical expression but dissolve just before crystallization, evoking a series of fleeting moments and a sense of the ephemeral nature of sound.
Echoes of Salt, composed by
Sander Saarmets, is a collage of memories and acoustic impressions of unique places and encounters. These sound recordings were collected by spatial audio specialist
Matthias Kassmannhuber and Saarmets during the summers of 2022 and 2023. Throughout their collaboration, they explored various locations in the Salzkammergut, capturing the unique auditory signatures of these places and preserving their memories. The composition is based on real experiences but is not a documentary; rather, it is a sound poem.
Regional_Express is an immersive multimedia project by
Ella Raidel,
Marlene Rutzendorfer and
Petra Ardai. The experience consists of an audio-visual journey on the train directed by Petra Ardai and a Cine-VR film directed by Ella Raidel. Sander Saarmets and Matthias Kassmannhuber are responsible for the sound world in both cases. Marlene Rutzendorfer is the producer of the project. Regional_Express is a culture project of the
European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024.
